A €100m construction and tourism project is being lined up for Co Longford.
British resort company Center Parcs has applied for planning permission for a complex at a Coillte-owned forest near the village of Ballymahon.
The Taoiseach Enda Kenny is expected to launch the ambitious plan tomorrow.
Center Parcs opened its first UK village at Sherwood Forest in July 1987, providing short break holidays on a year-round basis.
It now has five villages in the UK - as well as several across France, Germany, Belgium and The Netherlands.
The firm already operates an Irish version of its website, giving prices in euro.
More than 200 lodges and villas are in the plans for Longford - as are restaurants, bars and a swimming pool complex.
Jobs Minister Richard Bruton says he has been in contact with the team behind the project.
