Two people, including a garda officer, have been released without charge following their arrests over drugs-related activities in the northwest.

A female garda - aged in her early 30s - and a man in his 30s were arrested in Sligo yesterday.

They were released without charge this evening and a file is being prepared for the DPP.

The arrests were part of an investigation by the Organised Crime Unit and Sligo gardaí into a criminal gang in the northwest.

National Support Services were also involved in the operation.
