An Irish man has died at a popular holiday resort on the Algarve.

His body is reported to have been discovered by friends at his residence at an apartment complex in Albufeira this morning.

Police in Portugal are investigating, according to local media, with a post-mortem expected to be carried out.

The Department of Foreign Affairs says it is aware of the case and is standing ready to provide consular assistance.
