A man in his 50's has been charged in connection with an armed robbery in Dublin over the weekend.

The man entered the Spar shop on Thorncastle Street at approximately 5.40pm on Saturday, and was believed to be in possession of a firearm. He threatened staff and took an amount of cash before fleeing the scene on foot. No injuries were reported.

Gardaí arrested a man close to the scene a short time later. A firearm and cash have been seized.
