A suspected Isis militant from New Zealand has deleted his account after he accidentally revealed his exact location in a series of geo-tagged tweets.
Mark John Taylor, now Mohammad Daniel, had not disabled his phone's location services, which automatically tagged his location when ever he tweeted. Taylor deleted 45 tweets after the discovery was made, before eventually removing his account entirely.
His mistakes were noticed and recorded by iBRABO, an open source intelligence research group which identifies suspected terrorists based on social media content.
The organisation was able to track Taylor from Kafar Roma to the city of Al Tabqha, Syria in early December - even identifying the specific house in which he was staying.
Taylor's attention-seeking is all too familiar to iBRABO, who have identified numerous foreign jihadists through their social media channels.
"Taylor eager for the fame of being a violent jihadist took to Twitter to get attention for his exploits. His statements and twitter missteps have solidified his involvement with ISIS and will provide the evidence should he ever try to return to New Zealand.
"His ignorance and the ignorance of others has been an advantage to intelligence agencies around the world looking to protect their nations and track the progress of ISIS."
