From this Thursday onward you will be able to renew your passport online. 

The new service will allow adult Irish citizens around the world to apply to renew their passports via the Department’s website using their PC’s, tablets or smartphones.  

The facility is for adults who are over 18 only - first-time applicants and children will not be able to apply online.

The Department of Foreign Affairs said the service will be convenient, secure and will offer faster and more predictable turnaround times. 

Citizens can apply from Thursday onward via the department’s website using their desired electronic device. 

The initiative is part of the government's passport reform programme which aims to modernise Ireland’s passport systems and controls.

The department said it will bring further benefits to Irish citizens at home and abroad in the coming years.
