Staff at Temple Street Children's Hospital in Dublin are today caring for a baby girl with serious head injuries.

The young girl is the suspected victim of an assault last Monday, when the child was just six-weeks-old.

She was rushed to University Hopital Galway but later transferred to Temple Street due to the extent of her injuries.

Gardaí have confirmed that a man in his 20s was arrested earlier this week, but subsequently released without charge.

A file is now being prepared for the DPP.
