Taoiseach Enda Kenny has called a meeting of all agencies on Thursday to assess our preparedness for a Manchester-style attack.

The meeting is scheduled for 7:30am.

Mr Kenny says we cannot proceed on the basis that "everything is calm and rosy".

It comes after 22 people were killed in a terrorist attack at a concert in Manchester on Monday.

The UK terror threat level has been raised from Severe to Critical - the highest possible level - after the Manchester bombing.

Meanwhile, France’s interior minister has warned that the man believed to be responsible for the suicide bombing had "proven" links to ISIS.

The suspect has been named by police as Salman Abedi.

Reports indicate he had returned to the UK from a trip to Libya just days before carrying out the attack.

Four men have been arrested in in connection with the concert bomb attack.

The Islamic State has claimed it carried out the attack, which involved a homemade device packed with nuts and bolts.

Mr Kenny told the Dáil he wants an assessment to take place with everyone involved.

"I've looked at this and I've called the meeting for tomorrow morning of all the agencies - Defence, Justice, Transport, Health - for 7.30 in the morning to look at our situation here.

"I have to say, that I was very impressed with the immediate response of the first responders in Manchester to the tragedy".

He also wants to look at whether Ireland needs a standalone security and intelligence unit.
