While diving deep into its backend data, Pornhub, one of the world’s biggest pornography websites, has discovered that the Irish users’ biggest distraction from streaming the site’s content in 2015 was none other than the aptly named, yet entirely above board, The Late Late Toy Show.
The Ryan Tubridy-fronted marketing strategy designed to showcase the must-have toys ahead of Christmas is an annual ratings winner for RTÉ One, and now has caused a more significant drop in pornography browsing than any other media event in the world, including the Oscars and the season premiere of the Walking Dead.
The show, which had reached a whopping 1.36m viewers by its climax on November 27th, saw Pornhub lose 16% of its typical web traffic from Ireland during the show’s three-hour run.
The next biggest disruption was linked to Portugal, where a head-to-head debate between the now Prime Minister António Costa and the former leader Pedro Passos Coelho in October helped voters decide who to get behind in the parliamentary elections.
