A man who was found washed up on rocks in Clare has been identified.

His body was discovered on the coast at Aughinish in Kinvara at around 8.50pm on Sunday.

He was pronounced dead at the scene at 10pm that night.

Gardaí said the 86-year-old retiree was last seen near Salthill in Galway last Friday.

An appeal for information about the man was issued earlier today.

A postmortem examination is due to take place tomorrow at the morgue in Limerick Regional Hospital.
