Audi, BMW and Volkswagen are recalling several models of vehicles in Ireland due to concerns over airbags.

Audi is carrying out a voluntary recall of certain models of the A1, A4, A5, A6, A7, A8, Q5 and Q7 manufactured between 18/07/2016 and 14/10/2016.

It says as the result of a change in the production process, the airbag and belt tensioner igniters were manufactured without strict adherence to the prescribed tolerances.

This means the airbag or seat belt may not work correctly in the case of an accident on 32 affected vehicles.

Volkswagen is also carrying out a voluntary recall of certain models of the Golf, e-Golf, Golf Variant, Passat, Scirocco, Sportsvan, Tiguan, Touran, Up, e-Up, Amarok, Transporter manufactured between 29/07/2016 and 03/11/2016 for the same reason.

There are 57 affected Volkswagen vehicles in Ireland.

And BMW is carrying out a recall of certain models of the X1 (Model F48) produced between June 2016 to March 2017 involving the instrument panel.

It says due to a fault in the supplier's production process, on particular instrument panels the required horizontal and vertical opening lines of the passenger front airbag cover have not been milled.

"These millings serve as predetermined breaking point on the instrument panel in case the passenger front airbag is triggered, enabling the airbag to deploy according to specification.

"In case the passenger front airbag is triggered in the event of a crash, the passenger side front airbag might not deploy properly due to the missing milling."

BMW say 161 affected cars are on the Irish market.
