Netflix has announced it has finally gone 'global' after launching in more than 130 more countries today - meaning the popular video streaming service is now available in more than 190 countries. 

The announcement came during a keynote by the company's co-founder and chief executive Reed Hastings during a speech at the CES technology show in Las Vegas. 

Mr Hastings said, “today you are witnessing the birth of a new global Internet TV network. With this launch, consumers around the world - from Singapore to St Petersburg, from San Francisco to Sao Paulo - will be able to enjoy TV shows and movies simultaneously. No more waiting".

The company says that viewers in the newly added countries will have access to their original productions, as well as licensed TV shows and films.

The service will only be available in English in many of the countries, but support has also been added for Arabic, Korean, Simplified and Traditional Chinese languages - in addition to the 17 languages already supported.

Netflix says it is still 'exploring options' for a China launch, and it will not be able to launch in North Korea, Crimea and Syria 'due to US government restrictions on American companies'. Unsurprisingly, Netflix is also unavailable in many parts of Africa, the Middle East and Asia.

The company is planning to release 31 original TV series this year, including both new shows and new seasons of existing ones, as well as two dozen feature films and documentaries. They will be launched concurrently in all regions.
