A bitter row over a proposal for a Barrow Blueway has been put to bed, after it was rejected by An Bord Pleanála.
Waterways Ireland had planned to construct a hard path alongside the river, but some locals in Co. Carlow were amongst those who objected.
It would have facilitated more access for cyclists in the same way greenways have provided for casual cycling on former railway lines.
However, the planning authority refused permission over the threat the path posed to wildlife in a designated area of conservation.
ABP also believed a huge increase in numbers would spoil the experience.
Waterways Ireland is considering its options and is to outline its plans in the coming weeks.
So we're asking what next for The Barrow Way? Our reporter Aideen Finnegan has travelled to Carlow to find out...
