The value of Jameson sales have shot-up by an impressive 20% in the past six months - as the total number of cases sold rose to 5.7 million.

This came as the total volume of the whiskey shifted in the second half of 2016 grew by 16%.

Its parent company, Pernod Ricard, also notes that new 'innovations' from its brands added 1% to the group's overall sales and that the Jameson 'Caskmates' collaboration with Cork’s Franciscan Well Brewery was particularly popular.

It adds that Jameson enjoyed strong growth in the United States.

Commenting on the success of the brand in 2016, Jean-Christophe Coutures, Chairman and CEO of Irish Distillers Pernod Ricard said, "We have seen the global Irish whiskey renaissance continue with gusto, led by the category defining Jameson which is seeing double- and triple-digit growth in over 60 markets across the world.

"Innovation remains at the heart of what we do at Irish Distillers, a tradition dating back to John Jameson. A successful pilot test in the Irish market of Jameson Caskmates ... has led to its global launch to 30 markets."

Sales across Pernod Ricard's portfolio - which includes Malibu, Havana Club and Absolute Vodka, Glenlivet, and Jacob's Creek - enjoyed a more modest 4% increase.

Alexandre Ricard, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer commented, "Our half-year results are strong, delivering a continued performance improvement.  Our strategy remains consistent and is driving results.

"For full year FY 17, in an uncertain environment, we plan to continue improving our business performance year-on-year ... We will continue to support priority markets, brands and innovations while focusing on operational excellence.  We expect to deliver organic growth in Profit from Recurring Operations in line with the guidance of 2% to 4%."
