Dublin Airport just had its busiest ever February - as 1.8 million passengers passed through.

This was 4% more than the record set last year, this growth is particularly impressive when you consider that the month had an extra day in 2016.

The number of travellers going to and from continental Europe increased by 4% - as more than 852,000 passengers took short haul trips.

Meanwhile, the total going to and from the UK remained flat at 750,000.

28% more North American traffic was recorded - rising to almost 127,000.

All other traffic - most of which goes to the Middle East - grew by 10%.

7,000 passengers travelled on domestic routes last month, that's a 9% increase over February 2016.

81% more (59,000) people used Dublin as a connector hub while on international journies.

3.6 million passengers have used Dublin Airport in the first two months of this year, which is a 6% increase on the same period in 2016 - making it the busiest ever start to a year for the airport.

Ryanair also recently released figures showing that it also had its busiest-ever January and February.

Dublin Airport is due to invest €320m in its new runway - which will increase the airport's capacity to handle growing passenger numbers.

28 million flyers used the airport during 2016.

Commenting on the 2016 figures, Dublin Airport Managing Director Vincent Harrison said, "Over the past two years, passenger traffic at Dublin Airport has increased by 29%, which is equivalent to an extra 6.2 million passengers ... Those extra passengers have created an estimated 5,200 additional jobs on the Dublin Airport campus over the past two years."
