A new study into Irish shoppers' favourite brands has found that homegrown companies are more than holding their own against international competitors.
Four of the top five companies in the Kantar Worldpanel's rankings are Irish.
Top 10 Irish supermarket brands:
1. Avonmore
2. Brennans
3. Denny
4. Jacob's
5. Knorr
6. Muller
7. Heinz
8. Coca-Cola
9. Tayto
10. Birds Eye
The average frequency which that bands are being bought is 6.6% higher than last year's top 10.
David Berry, director of Kantar Worldpanel in Ireland, says: "Brands across all sectors are finding the Irish retail landscape more challenging.
"Traditional retailers have responded to a more competitive marketplace by expanding and improving their own-label lines – and brands and manufacturers are feeling the impact. While own label is growing by almost 6.2%, the proportion of the population buying the top 10 branded products is down by an average 2.8%."
Avonmore tops this index for the fifth year in a row. According to the report, 73.4% of the population bought its products on an average of 28.8 times a year.
