SuperValu has announced that it clocked up record sales of €2.67bn in 2016 - and it plans to expand its network in 2017.
The company is investing €35m in stores and revamps, creating 190 new jobs and opening three new outlets.
The locations of the new shops are currently undisclosed.
Martin Kelleher, Managing Director of SuperValu highlighted the impact that the chain has on the Irish economy: "As the number one supporter of the Irish agri-food industry, SuperValu sources from over 2,200 Irish suppliers – more than any other grocery retailer in the Irish market – equating to an annual economic contribution of €2.19bn."
SuperValu says a focus on fresh food is "a core driver" of its performance.
Its Food Academy collaboration with Bord Bia and the Local Enterprise Office has helped 300 small Irish food producers to secure retail listings - creating sales of €25m.
"As Ireland’s leading food retailer, we pride ourselves on delivering an unrivalled shopping experience with a unique and tailored offer of locally-sourced, quality Irish produce complemented by in-store experts. SuperValu independent retailers continue to set us apart and drive the success of the brand," Mr Kelleher continued.
Online shopping is being embraced by Irish customers - its digital sales grew by 22% last year.
SuperValu serves over 2.6 million customers every week and has 219 stores nationwide.
In January SuperValu was Ireland's second most popular supermarket, with a 22.5% market share - just behind the 22.7% held by Dunnes.
