170 jobs are to go at insurance company Assurant Solutions. The company is to close its call centre in Cork and transfer the business to Crewe in England.
Assurant says it is scheduling meetings with staff to discuss the timeline of the closure which is expected to be completed by September.
A spokesman says the decision was taken to ensure the company can "compete efficiently".
Assurant Solutions describes itself as a global provider of specialty insurance and insurance-related products.
Chris Harrison, President and CEO at Assurant Solutions Europe, said "Our operation in Crewe has the capacity to meet both current and future requirements as we seek to achieve our ambitions for growth in Europe".
"Decisions to close an operation are always tough but must be made to ensure our business can compete effectively, service our clients and deliver value to customers".
He went on to thank their employees in Cork "on their professionalism during the last few months".
Assurant is a 'Fortune 500' company and is traded on the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE). The firm has approximately 14,000 employees worldwide and is headquartered in New York.
