Profits at the Irish stores of fashion chain Abercrombie & Fitch have soared by more than 50%.

The company - which has one Abercrombie and one Hollister store in Dublin - hit just over €702,000 in the year to the start of February 2014.

That is up from €457,000 in its previous financial year, according to accounts for the company filed at the Companies Registration Office.

Sales at the two outlets rose to €16.5m, up from €15.8m.

In the accounts, Abercrombie say the increase in sales and profits are down to the first full year of trading at the Abercrombie shop on College Green in Dublin, which opened in November 2012.

The accounts show that Abercrombie employed a total of 455 people during the 12 months. However, all but 28 employees were part-time workers.

The surge in profits at Abercrombie in Ireland are in stark contrast to its stores across the globe.

In August, the company revealed that sales had fallen 11% as it lost ground to discount retailers. Its image is also undergoing a makeover following a series of gaffs.
