As one of the leading tech companies in the world, Apple is no stranger to filing patents. They have been granted patents that protect product design, functionality and everything in between.

While many of these patents lead to innovative and brilliant products arriving into our homes, some of them are a bit left of centre.

Their latest product is a space-age pizza box, which is specifically for its employees at the new headquarters in California. The box is circular in design and has a white finish. There are carefully placed holes on the box, which allow heat and moisture to escape, ensuring the pizza does not get soggy.

The patent was first published back in 2012 and describes how the box can be easily stacked and allows for moisture to be "expelled from the food item to be transported away from the food item".

The company does not have plans to distribute this invention around the world, however, meaning we will have to tolerate soggy pizza in square boxes for another while yet.

Previous patents

The company has previously secured patents for a wide range of products including an iDevice, which is like an iPhone, but has a scrollable display.

They were also awarded a patent for creating iPhone-compatible gloves.
