It is understood that attempts are being made to have Denis O'Brien appear before the Oireachtas Banking Inquiry.
One member of the Inquiry is believed to be trying to have the terms of reference expanded, with Mr O'Brien called to give evidence.
It is thought that the businessman would be asked to give evidence from the perspective of a corporate borrower - given that the inquiry is already due to hear from large developers.
Finance Spokesperson for Fianna Fáil, Michael McGrath has asked for the issue to be covered at a private meeting of the inquiry on Tuesday, according to the Irish Independent.
It reports that McGrath asked for Mr O’Brien to be brought in front of the inquiry over his relationship with the Irish Bank Resolution Corporation (IBRC) - the proposal has not yet been debated.
Committee sources say they are reluctant to overlap with the work of the Commission of Investigation, and have also expressed concerns about expanding the workload of the inquiry.
