Bebo is back but there are no skins or flash boxes - it is relaunching as a social messaging app that pretty much looks like Snapchat on steroids.

Users make BitStrip style avatars, and are invited to 'hashtag anything'. You can send Snapchat-syle doodles, voice recordings and audio clips - there even seems to be a game section with a version of Flappy Bird.

Bebo 1.0 will always have a special place in young(ish) Irish people's hearts.

MySpace dominated the pre-Facebook social media market in most countries, but for some reason Irish teens in the mid noughties went all in on Bebo.

The site was never more that the sixth most popular social network in the UK.

Bebo's co-founder Michael Birch got out at just the right time - in 2008 its audience was migrating en masse to Facebook - and the social network was sold to AOL for $850m.

The company has also announced that photos from the old Bebo site will be available from the 31st of January, so you can expect to see embarrassing photos of you and your friends clogging up your social feeds for the first few days of February 2015.
