The CEO of Aer Lingus Christoph Mueller has been appointed chairman of An Post. The Minister for Communications Pat Rabbitte made the announcement today.

"An Post has a great brand and an important nation-wide network. It provides very important services to communities throughout Ireland" he said. "However, in the internet era, the company also faces significant challenges. The company will benefit from the strategic leadership approach that Christoph Mueller has brought to Aer Lingus" he added.

Mr. Mueller previously held leadership roles in Deutsche Post and DHL before joining Aer Lingus as its Chief Executive Officer in September 2009. He was also appointed to the Board of Tourism Ireland in January last year.

An Post has a turnover of around €800 million and employs 9,000 staff. It also provides daily postal services to over 2 million delivery points.
