Microsoft and Google came second and third respectively, but CRH topped the poll with a turnover of €18.6 billion last year.

The poll ranks the top 1,000 companies in Ireland by turnover.

Irish-owned businesses to appear in the top 20 were Paddy Power, Dunnes Stores, Ryanair, ESB, Kerry Group, and Musgrave.

Microsoft had a turnover of close to €14 billion, with Google at €12.5 billion, although social gaming company Zynga was the “best performer” in this sector.
