The government is to outline annual targets for getting long-term unemployed people off the dole.

Among the measures in an updated strategy to combat unemployment will be one that asks companies to fill 15% of vacancies from the live register by the end of 2015.

The revised government Pathways to Work plan will be unveiled later today and aims to improve labour market activation alongside the action plan for jobs.

Everyone on the Live Register - almost 423,000 people - will be profiled so that personalised employment supports can be tailored for them.

The plan will reiterate the target of taking 75,000 long-term unemployed off the dole and into jobs by the end of 2015 with monitoring reports every 3 months.

The Department of Social Protection is also going to work with companies who are hiring to try and get 15% of jobs filled by those on the Live Register.

Again quarterly updates on how this is progressing are expected.

Political Editor with the Irish Independent Fionnan Sheahan spoke to Breakfast here on Newstalk about the plan.
