The Irish Examiner is seeking up to 60 voluntary redundancies across its group, which is around 10% of its workforce. Currently 560 staff work at the Irish Examiner, the Evening Echo and a number of regional titles.
Staff were called to a meeting early this afternoon where they were told the news.
Landmark Media, who owns the Irish Examiner, says the move is due to technology investment and efficiencies.
The Examiner, along with a number of regional titles and broadcast investments, were bought by Landmark last year.
It came after a receiver was appointed to media group Thomas Crosbie Holdings (TCH), which previously owned The Examiner
Other titles now owned by Landmark include The Evening Echo, Waterford News and Star, Wexford Echo, Western People and Roscommon Herald.
Tech investment & efficiencies in Landmark Media, owners of Irish Examiner, to result in loss of approx 50 jobs out of 560 across the Group.
