A company based in Co Clare looks set to revolutionise the process of DNA testing.
AltraTech, which operates from Shannon, is developing a 30-minute DNA testing kit which will reduce waiting times by up to six days.
The firm is developing rapid-diagnostic technology in single-use, disposable DNA test kits for the food safety and animal health markets.
It is one of 10 Irish companies to receive €50,000 under the new EU SME instrument fund.
It was created by outgoing Innovation Commissioner, Maire Geoghegan-Quinn.
Tim Cummins of AltraTech says his invention will revolutionise DNA testing - particularly in the area of food.
