A new drink-ordering app could make queuing at the bar a thing of the past.

Orderella, launched today to coincide with the opening of the Web Summit, has 19 venues signed up - including Dublin’s Copper Face Jacks and Lillie’s Bordello.

Customers in the signed up locations will be able to order food and drink on their smartphone while they sit at their table and pay through card details stored on the app.

“I’ve heard of people ordering out of their taxis while about 300 yards away from the bar,” said Orderella chief executive Dennis Collet, who was prompted to create the app three years ago during a night out with friends in London.

Bars that sign up to Orderella’s system save time on processing payments, so they can then fulfil more orders, reduce queues and shorten waiting times for customers, according to Mr Collet,

The app was launched in Britain 12 months ago and is available to 130 venues, including the Porterhouse in London which is part of the same group as Lillie’s Bordello.

Oderella raises revenue through charging venues 4 per cent commission. The company has already raised £1.6 million (€2.05 million) through the UK’s Enterprise Investment Scheme as well as investors, clients and suppliers in the hospitality industry.

Mr Collet will be among the many attendees at the summit wishing to attract further venture capital funding for their companies.
