They were released in the UK, US and nine other countries on September 20th, and now Apple has finally announced a pair of wider release dates for their latest iPhone models. The premium 5s and slightly cheaper but significantly more colourful 5c will both reach Irish shores on Friday 25th October, and will also launch in the Netherlands, Italy, Spain and over thirty other countries on the same day. The phone will reach another 16 markets the following week.
The more expensive 5s' headline features are its 64-bit processor, improved camera and fingerprint scanner. It comes in gold, silver and grey models. The 5c, meanwhile, is most notable for breaking away from Apple tradition and offering a variety of bright, multicoloured plastic cases. The phone itself is effectively a repurposed iPhone 5, which will be discontinued with the release of the new phones. Both will run Apple's recently launched iOS7 software. We'll have to wait until closer to launch day to see what kind of deals different networks will be offering those looking to invest in the latest iOS devices. As ever, those intending to go the sim-free route can expect to pay a serious premium - even the lowest-priced 16GB 5c model likely to retail at €599, with the 64GB 5s going for a whopping €899. For those in the market for a new iPhone but not willing to pay those prices, the previous generation 4s will also drop in price with the release of the new phones.
Meanwhile, the rumour mill is suggesting the latest upgrades to the iPad will be announced at an event on October 22nd, although that date is not yet confirmed. More information on Apple's major Mac Pro upgrade and new desktop operating system Mavericks are also expected at the event.
