Oculus Rift, the virtual reality headset, will ship with one of Microsoft's Xbox One controllers the company confirmed at their pre-E3 show earlier in the week.

The inclusion of the Xbox controller has come as expected given that the Rift had been touted as a PC-centred device from the off. 

The Oculus Rift is finally due for release early next year after being initially shown off in prototype form back in 2013. 

Oculus founder, Palmer Luckey, said that the Xbox One controller was the best available saying "it just is".

While no release date or price has been formally announced the company are ramping up excitement about the product that was acquired by Facebook in a deal worth in the region of $2 billion back in 2014.

They've showed off a number of games so far including 'EVE: Valkyrie' which showed off its pre-alpha trailer earlier in the year.

Facebook's acquisition of the company made many believe that the device may be used as a social media medium and it still may be. However, it is expected that E3 will see almost exclusively the device's gaming side.
