Working nine to five is no longer any way to make a living. A new report from Morgan McKinley switching finds that workers in Ireland are going above and beyond what they agree to in their work contracts.

Here's how the numbers look:

70% of Irish employees work more than their contracted hours.

63% of Irish people feel obliged to do so.

3 months a year: One out of every six of the survey’s respondents clock-up 10 hours more than their agreed hours every week. In a 48 week working year this translates into a full three months of extra work every year, that's 125%.

36% of employers are offering work from home options.

After hours:

44% and 66%: The Morgan McKinley report suggest that Irish workers have learnt to “work hard and switch off” as 44% of those surveyed report that they do not use their mobile devices for work once they leave the office. This stat can be flipped to say that 56% of workers are still connected and using mobile devices to work even in their off hours.

75% of Irish people say that the increased workload is having a negative impact on their work/life balance.

250,000: A recent Eircom survey found that a quarter of a million Irish people check their work emails while on holidays. In contrast to Morgan McKinley’s report they found that the prevalence of smart devices in Ireland has broke down the ”traditional boundaries between home and work life”.

Constant connection:

25%: One quarter of Irish people check their emails first thing every morning.

250,000 check work emails while on holiday.

90% carry at least one mobile device when they go on holiday.

30% of Irish people feel insecure when they are separated from their phones.

150: The number of times the average person checks their smartphones everyday.

Fat: Your devices are also making you fat.
