Ryanair have announced a flash sale with seats going for as low as €1, but customers are advised to move quickly, as the sale ends on Thursday at midnight.

At the time of publication flights are available to Liverpool and Brussels for just €1, while a one-way ticket can be got to Glasgow, Oslo or East Midlands for just €4.99.

For those looking to splurge there are flights to London, Frankfurt, Cologne, Edinburgh, Manchester, Paris and many more for just €9.99.

The cost exclude extras – such as additional baggage or seat selection – and are limited to certain days of travel.

The airline earlier today announced they will cut 600 jobs and 16 routes in Italy in response to an increase in passenger tax from January 1 this year.

The increase is to subsidise ex-Alitalia pilot redundancy fund and Ryanair say they have been left with no choice but to drastically reduce their operations in Italy, including moving aircraft and jobs to surrounding countries and cutting routes to and from Italian airports.

"The Italian Government has decided to shoot itself in the foot by hiking passenger taxes by almost 40%, to inflate the ex-Alitalia pilots’ redundancy fund.

"As the largest airline in Italy, flying to 26 airports and carrying 27m customers to (and) from Italy annually, Ryanair has been left with no choice but to close two of our 15 Italian base," said David O'Brien, Ryanair Chief Commercial Officer.
