Staff at a company which provides maintenance services at four national mail centres for An Post have issued notice of industrial action.
The workers at I.O. Systems are seeking a reversal of a decision to implement pay cuts, compulsory redundancies and relocations. The CWU has communicated the result of the ballot to An Post and has issued seven days notice of industrial action - up to and including strike.
The Communications Workers' Union (CWU) says of 29 votes cast, 100% voted in favour of industrial action.
Commenting on the ballot results, CWU Postal Section National Officer Seán McDonagh said "Automation systems engineers maintain and service automated machinery at An Post sorting centres to ensure it continues to operate at high levels of efficiency and safety".
"These engineers have demonstrated their capabilities and professionalism by successfully implementing and reengineering the automated sorting systems at An Post which have helped ensure Quality of Service for next day delivery at an all-time high of 94%".
Mr. McDonagh added that "IOS wrongly anticipated reduced requirements at An Post and prematurely committed to cost saving measures while simultaneously offering the very same level of service to An Post".
