A slice of tech history went under the hammer in New York last night - when Steve Jobs' first computer sold for $365,000 (€293,000). This was $45,000 below Christies lowest estimate.
Fewer than 50 of these computers are believed to have survived out of the few hundred that were originally produced. The auction house had predicted that it would go for between $400,000 and $600,000. The computer was originally sold by Jobs out of his parent's garage for $600.
The Henry Ford organisation bought an Apple I in October and paid $905,000 (€727,000).
Steve Jobs sold his Volkswagen van to fund the building of the computers. They were handmade by Steve Wozniak - the engineer who co-founded Apple with Steve Jobs, taking care of the business side of things.
The computer was replaced by the much more modern-looking Apple II in 1977.

Some expect that the recently discontinued iPod Classic could be the new vinyl. The 160gb model is already selling at inflated prices on sites like eBay.
