This summer's GAA Football and Hurling Championships may be the last to be broadcast on Sky Sports if certain counties have their way.

The British broadcaster signed a three-year deal in 2014 with the GAA to show 14 games exclusively each year. As part of Sky's deal, they had exclusive rights to show two All-Ireland quarter-finals each year. That caused problems in a Mayo parish last year when the Connacht champions played Donegal.

According to this morning's Irish Independent, the GAA face losing €15million from the Sky deal if it is not extended for another three years from 2017-2019.

The Dublin County Board are bringing a motion to Congress that only free-to-air channels can show Championship games. That would mean only RTE, TV3, TG4 and UTV Ireland could bid to earn broadcast rights.

Motion 43 at the GAA Congress in Carlow this weekend could have wide-ranging effects on the future finances of the Association.
