Twitter has rolled out its disappearing tweets feature called 'Fleets' for all users today.

The feature is seen as a move to rival its competitors Instagram and Snapchat which already have 'stories' on their platforms.

The Fleets will similarily disappear after 24 hours and are aimed at "sharing momentary thoughts", according to Twitter.

Social media companies Facebook and LinkedIn also launched a similar feature on their sites.

The tool was initially trialled in Brazil, Italy, India, and South Korea but is being rolled out globally today.

Twitter says the ephemeral nature of the posts will encourage people to join more conversations while new users will find it "an easier way to share what's on their mind".

People will also "people feel more comfortable sharing personal and casual thoughts, opinions, and feelings", according to the tests carried out already.

Users will be able to Fleet text, Tweets, photos or videos with the option to customise Fleets with various background and text options.

To share a Tweet in a Fleet, users must tap the “share” icon at the bottom of the Tweet and then tap, “share in Fleet.”

The company added that stickers and live broadcasting will soon be available in Fleets.
