Unite is to seek a meeting with Heinz to discuss the implications of its restructuring plans on Irish workers.

Yesterday the food company announced that changes are coming on stream which could result in the loss of office jobs.

There are fears that 250 jobs could be cut at the food giant in Ireland and the UK. The firm says it has developed a new "streamlined structure".

Heinz says it regrets the impact this would have on its employees. It employs over 2,600 people across Ireland and the UK.

The company recently laid off 600 employees in the USA.

Unite represents workers in the Dundalk facility of the company.

Unite official Claire Keane said "Over the years, Heinz has been a reliable employer providing good-quality jobs in Dundalk, and we are confident this will continue to be the case".
