The ante has been upped on the race among retailers to tug on your heart-strings this Christmas - as John Lewis takes to outer space for its annual advert.
‘Man on the Moon’ features Lily, a little girl who spends much of her time staring through a telescope (cue countless 'Dear Santa' letters requesting something similar). The story begins in the run-up to Christmas, when she spots a scruffily-dressed old man, all alone in his little shed on the moon. Lily desperately waves at him to get his attention - even firing messages via an arrow - but alas, she's no luck.
Then on Christmas Day a parcel - with helium balloons attached - lands at the feet of the rather lonely old man. It is a gift from the girl: a telescope which allows him to spot her through its lens back down on earth.
He sheds a tear of joy... and more than likely you will too.
