Just over a week from now, Colin O'Brien's Ireland Under-17s will kick off their European Championship.

The extra incentive is that Ireland hosts the tournament, with games across the country.

The Irish team shares a group with Belgium, Czech Republic and Greece.

As the U17s Euros close in and ahead of Monday's squad announcement, head coach O'Brien joined us in studio.

He explained that Ireland senior manager Mick McCarthy has offered some input.

"I think he was very impressed," said O'Brien on McCarthy's view on the set-up.

"He also gave us a presentation recently regarding the senior team which is very important for the whole line."

Troy Parrott

Troy Parrott may only be 17 but he has already been called up by the Under-21s.

O'Brien addressed the Tottenham starlet's status vis-a-vis the U17 Euros.

"We still haven't had the exact decision on it," he said of Parrott.

"But we have spoken to Spurs but it's a little bit more complex. But you will know on Monday."

He also touched on the good headache he has in regards to goalkeeper selection.

Manchester City's Gavin Bazunu and Preston's Jimmy Corcoran provide two stellar options. The latter however is suspended for the start of the tournament.

"We've looked at that situation throughout the season," he said.

"So they've all had opportunities which is good. They all understand what's required for a goalkeeper at international level. But right now, once Gavin is fit and gets through this weekend, he'll be available to play in the first game. So it's important you go in with a good goalkeeper into the tournament."
