The latest figures from the National Public Health Emergency Team (NPHET) show the number of coronavirus patients in ICU has topped 300.

Data from the Health Protection Surveillance Centre (HPSC), as of midnight on Friday, showed that out of 14,602 cases, 2,223 (15%) have been hospitalised.

And of those hospitalised, 303 cases have been admitted to ICU.

Some 3,788 overall cases are associated with healthcare workers.

On Sunday a further 39 people diagnosed with COVID-19 in Ireland died.

Some 37 deaths were located in the east of the country, and two in the west.

The deaths included 19 women and 20 men with a median age of 84.

And 29 of these people were reported as having underlying health conditions.

There have now been 610 COVID-19 related deaths in Ireland.

An overall breakdown of the deaths shows 346 of those who died were men and 264 were women.

The age range is between 23 and 105 years

While 337 of these cases were admitted to hospital, 46 were admitted to an ICU.

There are now a total of 15,251 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Ireland.

Meanwhile Health Minister Simon Harris says he is worried that "some complacency is setting in."

"We have made progress but we’re not yet where we need to be," he said on Twitter on Sunday.

"We need to see a fall in new cases. Encouraging signs. But please let’s not slip up now."

"The progress is fragile, we're at a very delicate moment and it would not take much for that to be reversed.

"And I'm just hearing stories - and that's all they are - but stories of people beginning to somewhat relax their interpretation of the phrase 'Stay at Home'.

"And I really, really need to appeal to you not to do that: because I can't have a situation where all the amazing work you've done is undone".

"This is having an impact on all of us on a human level, but I tell you it's an awful lot better than what the alternative could be.

"And the alternative would be absolute devastation in our country".
