New Documentary on Newstalk "The Sea Is My Sky" Produced by Maurice Kelliher and Shaun O’Boyle.
From quiet full-moon swims to high energy races, cups of tea on the beach to glasses of prosecco by the Liffey, The Sea Is My Sky captures the community, competition, and joy of sea swimming on Ireland’s east coast.
Dublin Swimming Club is the oldest swimming club in Ireland. It was founded in 1881 and, like many swimming and sports organisations at the time, excluded women for many years.
In this new documentary, we hear from women who are part of Dublin Swimming Club today, as well as women who are part of other sea swimming clubs near Dublin. We spoke to women who compete in open water competitions, who swam the English Channel, and who brave the Liffey every year for one of Dublin’s most iconic swims. We also spoke to women who swim for their wellbeing—physical and mental—and we explore the rich history of women’s swimming in Ireland.
The Sea Is My Sky - will air on Newstalk on Sunday September 4th at 7am, repeated on Saturday September 10th at 9pm and will be available as a podcast on GoLoud, Newstalk.com and all major podcast platforms.
