Ryanair CEO Michael O'Leary has called for the deregulation and privatisation of the transport system.
He was speaking on Newstalk's Down To Business this morning about the Luas strike.
"You have to ask why is the state still owning bus companies?" said the Ryanair boss.
"The state is useless at running bus companies. It's always been useless at running train services.
"You look at the mess of the Luas strikes, where you have a couple of headbangers hanging out for 50% pay increase."
He also said he believes that if people want to "vote away their jobs" then they should be fired and replaced, suggesting "schoolkids" as an alternative.
"It takes about five minutes to train a Luas driver," he added.
When asked if he would get on well with the newly appointed Minister for Transport Shane Ross he said he will be a "breath of fresh air" provided "he continues in Ministerial office what he's been preaching in the Sunday Independent for the last 20 years".
Michael O'Leary also believes the government won't last a year because the numbers are so stacked against it.
"Sinn Féin and Fianna Fáil will bring it down within 12 months".
