This week Down to Business has been 'out and about,' meeting Béibhinn Flood, the founder of The Design House - a creative space and store on Dawson Street in central Dublin.

She describes it as a "one stop shop" for all things design and style in the capital.

Ms Flood says that the business was started to satisfy two niches. One was, "people looking for unique, limited edition pieces, and custom made pieces". She adds that at that point "there was no one really doing the whole bespoke service that we offer".

The other gap in the market was to offer a centre for the country's talented designers who need access to retail space and studios.

Béibhinn has brought all of this under one roof - and added classes and a cafe too.

Some 20 designers share studio spaces, while the shop sells limited edition and bespoke pieces by anywhere between 50 and 100 Irish designers at any given time.

Shoppers can meet with designers and order custom pieces if they are looking for a specific 'look,' or something tailored to suit their individual shape.

It also offers classes in everything from styling, sewing to 'upcycling' and the business of fashion.

Bobby had a go at a sewing class while there. Béibhinn says, "the one thing I love about this building is that there's always so much going on in it. I think having the classes really adds to it.

"People used to do [sewing] in school, which was brilliant. All the older generation know how to do things, but the younger generation haven't a clue!" she added.
