This week Bobby Kerr has been out and about with Cyclone Couriers - a Dublin based delivery company to get a real feel for how the company works.
The Cyclone Group began in 1988 with the establishing of Cyclone Couriers - it now has four operating divisions: Cyclone Couriers, Cyclone Shredding, Cyclone Archive and 2Flow Logistics.
Director and co-founder, Kevin Oliver explains that the company was started by motorcycle couriers who spotted a gap in the Irish market:
"At the time the real issue was availability of motorbike couriers - motorbikes have a reputation for being dangerous. With increases in costs of insurance - there was a diminishing pool of people who were available to work as motor cyclist couriers."
He continues: "We were over in London for a meeting and we saw push bike couriers in action over there and we thought - gosh - maybe this is something that would work to supplement the courier fleet - but at the time we weren't sure how well it would actually go."
Although it took some two years for the idea of push bike couriers to gain traction - soon Cyclone's fleet was whizzing around the streets of Dublin - and the company has been growing ever since.
It was awarded the title of Courier Company of the Year at this year's Irish Logistic and Transport Awards.
On his day out with the company Bobby Kerr was given the task of taking a passage from Stephen's Street to Mercer Street in Dublin's city centre. He made it there in 10 minutes (without breaking any lights - as he points out).
Cyclone told him that he should get in touch if he needs some extra work - watch this space...
