People can be brought back from death hours after they have technically died which raises the interesting question; what experiences do they have on the other side? Are patients hallucinating or are they experiencing life even though their brains are dead? After having a near death experience does it change a patient’s outlook on life? Dr Sam Parnia from the State University of New York joins Futureproof to talk about the strange phenomenon that is the 'life after death' experience.
The new study, featuring fifteen institutions from all over the world and two thousand patients who had died and been resuscitated is the largest ever study of its type. It explores the experience of dying and attempts to find a way to verify when people have conscious awareness even though their brains are not functioning. A series of interviews were carried out with people who had technically died and been brought back to life which revealed some fascinating results.
