Right now on the coast of Newfoundland a dead blue whale is beached and could explode at any moment! It even has its own website: hasthewhaleexplodedyet.com
But why might it explode you ask?
Well, usually when a whale dies it sinks and this means plenty of food to fuel the ecosystem. However, when a whale dies close to shore, it can become beached.
If the whale is exceptionally big and contains a large layer of blubber, the contents of their stomach begin to decompose, producing methane, hydrogen sulfide and a couple other gases, which are going to begin expanding, especially if it’s sitting in the sun for a couple of weeks.
So what does an exploding whale look like? Prepare yourself, some people may find this video hard on the stomach (no pun intended):
