The intrepid Futureproof team made their way to Norway tonight. After a stop-over in Oslo we flew to Tromso. Tromso is a small city in the Arctic Circle that is one of the best places in the world to see the Northern Lights. It's also a town that is currently experiencing 'Polar Night' so the sun is below the horizon and we're in the dark. But that darkness will hopefully make the aurora borealis all the brighter.
Tromso is a beautiful city surrounded by snowy mountains and full of friendly people who seem delighted that their city has so so many people coming to view the northern lights. Even thought we're in the Arctic Circle it's not as cold as you'd expext as there's a gulf stream that keeps things bearable.
Tromso holds lots of things that are 'the most northern' in the world such as the most northern working beer brewery and the most northern Lutheren Church
As it happens we arrive in Tromso the week they begin to host an international film festival that celebrates movies made in 'Northern Regions all around the world'
Armed with recording equipment, video cameras and regular cameras over the next few days we'll be sending videos, photos and updates back to Newstalk listeners and web watchers.
Tomorrow our trip really begins as we go chasing those magical lights in the sky. Stay tuned
