On Futureproof this Saturday morning we’re joined by neuroscientist John Hardy from University College London who thinks that science has made it plain for all to see that boxing should be banned outright.

Boxers are at risk of getting chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE), euphemistically known as being ‘punch drunk’. CTE causes progressive memory problems, personality change and slowness of movement. It afflicts many former sportspeople but it particularly affects boxers.

John writes that ‘A sport whose sole aim is to cause brain damage to another person is not a "noble art". It has no place in a civilised society.’

We’ll also be joined by former Olympic boxer and boxing commentator Mick Dowling who is aware of the dangerous of boxing but thinks the proposal of banning it ignores the benefits that boxing gives to people and to communities.

Tune in on Saturday from 9 A.M.
