Next week, Newstalk’s award-winning science show Futureproof, hosted by Jonathan McCrea, will be travelling to the Arctic Circle in Norway to view the northern lights or aurora borealis as they are also known. We’ll be looking at the science of what causes this natural phenomenon which in medieval times was thought to be a sign from God.

As well as a daily blog and a whole show all about the lights, we will be filming this spectacular phenomenon with high-resolution cameras and will be sharing the results once we return.

Not only will we be exploring the lights, there will be other fascinating things such as riding with huskies, reindeer sleighing and feeding Arctic seals.
