One man has told Lunchtime Live that pornography addiction 'completely rewires' your emotions.
On today's show, listeners debated Culture Minister Josepha Madigan's suggestion that ‘parents not politicians' must face online porn problems.
Johnny called in to speak about his own experiences over the past 20 years.
He said: "I am an addict to pornography, and I'm in help for it at the moment.
"Every facet of your life... it can affect - emotional, physical, mental, and it goes without saying relationships.
Expanding on that, he explained: "If you've had good [relationships] before you go near it, it will smash it to pieces very, very quickly. It's very hard to go back and get a relationship because of it."
"Emotions are all completely rewired, and indeed your mental state is rewired - you're not sure which way is up sometimes."
"If you're in a relationship, you're kind of detached at some points - especially when you're in the darkness of it... It's pure darkness."
He said pornography might not impact the lives of the 'vast majority of people' and that it may even help some relationships - but he stressed that his own experiences have been extremely difficult.
Johnny also explained his views on the way to help people - in particular young people - avoid pornography addiction.
He observed: "Education, education, education - if you don't teach young people the dangers of pornography on the Internet, you're never going to win.
"You can block it all you like, they'll still find a way around it."
